Chapter 69 Her brother had guessed

It was because she was spoiled as a little princess that she was afraid to do things that would make them unhappy and hated by them.

Because you once had, you wor be afraid to lose.

The grandmother sighed with relief, “Good, our Jessie is always a good girl.”

“Haha, I won’t misunderstand grandmother. I drank too much bubble tea while shopping in the afternoon, so I have to go to the bathroom now.” Jessica stood up. She trotted into the bathroom when she was out of their sight.

The moment the door closed, the smile could not be sustained.

She put her hands on the sink, looked at herself in the mirror and tried to smile. “They didn’t beat you, scold you or dock your living expenses, so why are you so melodramatic?”

Jessica stretched out a hand and wiped the tears from her eyes.

She was lucky enough to be adopted by such a family, and she should not expect too much.

She took a deep breath, collected herself, and prepared to go out. If grandmother waited too long, she would think too much.

When her hand grasped the door handle, Jessica found her finger was a bit black. She was stiff, and then went back to look at the mirror. She found her eye makeup was messed up.

Too bad…

At this moment, knock knock knock.

There was a knock at the door.

Jessica panicked. She tried to wipe off the blackness from her eyes, but as soon as she did, her eye makeup became even worse.

What could she do about it!

“Open the door.” Ryan’s flat voice came from outside.

Jessica cleared her throat and said, “Ryan, could you go, go to other bathroom? I have a stomachache. Maybe I…still need a while.”

“Open the door, your make-up bag.” Ryan interrupted her, then turned the handle of the door and came in directly. Haven’t you remembered I said so many times that you had to lock the bathroom?”

Her brother had guessed.

Jessica lowered her head, covered her face with her hair, and reached for her bag. “Why lock the door when you’re in your own house!”

Instead of getting the bag, a long slender hand reached over and lifted her chin.

By the time she realized and was going to struggle, Ryan had seen her. “Why are you crying?”

He squeezed her chin and his voice dropped. “If you don’t want to, why do you force yourself?”

They were almost cheek to cheek. His warm breath sprayed on her face as he spoke.

Jessica was stared by Ryan and was a bit nervous. She opened her mouth but didn’t say anything.

She didn’t know how to explain it to him.

It was she, not him, who was dependant, and he might never understand her feelings.

“You have a girlfriend, and we are not blood relations. It’s better keep your distance.” Jessica pushed his hand away, and hurriedly put on the makeup, “Grandfather and grandmother have been waiting for a long time. I go down first!”

Then she opened the door and went out hurriedly.

He looked down at his hands, and the tips of his fingers seemed to retain the smoothness of her skin. He rubbed his fingers, put down his hand, and followed her.

They went back to the living room one after the other.

Seeing this, the grandmother complained, “I told you to keep a distance, but why didn’t you listen? What if they come and see you go to the bathroom together? They will misunderstand.”

Jessica clutched the corner of her dress and whispered, “I’ll be careful next time.”

“That’s what you said before. Don’t just say that. Do it.” The grandmother finished talking about her, and then went to talk about Ryan, “Ryan, Jessie promised. How about you?”

Ryan sat on the sofa, with his hand on the armrest. His every move was so noble that ordinary people couldn’t compare with him. “Promise what?”

“You child! Didn’t I just say that? Just to keep…”

The grandfather took off his glasses, pinched the bridge of his nose, and interrupted her. “Well, why do you always let the children promise? Are you not afraid of being laughed at.”

“You can’t say that.” The grandmother said, “Her eldest brother also spoils Jessie, but not like Ryan. For the sake of Jessie, such an important meeting abroad has been ruined. I’m worried that that they…”

Jessica’s heart missed a beat and her temples were pulsating wildly. She swallowed and said, “Grandmother, Ryan already has a girlfriend.”

After she said this, a cold look fell on her, which chilled her to the bone.

She looked round and met her brother’s gaze. It was so cold that she had goose bumps and a chill on her back.

She had a panic attack suddenly.

The grandmother now did not care about the distance between the brother and sister, but exulted, “Ryan, you have a girlfriend? Why didn’t you tell me?”

She sat down beside Ryan and asked, “Who is she? Why don’t you bring she home? And if she’s not bad, just get married. You’re not young, either.”

Ryan didn’t answer, but looked at Jessica.

The feelings in his eyes were too complicated for her to understand. All she knew was that something was weighing on her heart, so heavy that she could hardly breathe.

For a long time she did not hear the answer, so the grandmother asked impatiently, “I am asking you. Why are you looking at Jessie?”

Jessica swallowed hard, and her throat tightened under Ryan’s gaze.

“I don’t know if we’ll break up after a while. Why take her home?”

There was a flash of groom in his eyes, and he withdrew his gaze, whose handsome face still looked cold.

The grandmother was not satisfied with this answer. “If you’re in love, you have to be responsible for the girl. How can you break up…”

“I have business to attend to, go first.” Ryan frowned, stood up, stepped aside, picked up his coat, and strode out.

Before leaving, he took a look at Jessica. The chill in his eyes sent shivers down her spine.

The grandmother shouted from behind, “Ryan, you’re not young, either. Don’t run away from marriage!”

But Ryan didn’t stop. He went out the door and disappeared from their sight.

Then she withdrew her eyes and looked down to play with her hand. The sudden surge of guilt almost overwhelmed her. She shouldn’t have used her brother as a shield to reassure her grandmother.

“Well, that boy, can be a real pain.” The grandmother said and turned to ask Jessica, whose eyes were shining. “You said your brother has a girlfriend, so have you seen your sister-in-law before? Do you know whose daughter she is?”

Jessica was not comfortable with the title “sister-in-law”. She nodded awkwardly, “Yes. She’s a C-list star.”

The grandfather glanced in their direction, but he didn’t say anything and went on reading biographies.

“A star? I’ve heard that these actors and singers are not very clean in private. Some sleep with people for a song, a TV show or something.” The grandmother was worried.
